Abbas urges Gaza Strip residents to overthrow Hamas

Highlight: In a speech made in Ramallah two days after Hamas security forces killed eight people and wounded dozens at a massive rally of Mr Abbas's Fatah movement in Gaza City, the president said: "While we are able to lead an extremely difficult struggle to end the Israeli occupation in all its forms we must at the same time oust this clique that usurped Gaza by force and which trades in the suffering and tragedies of our people."

What is required is the ousting of the occupation, not of Hamas," added Mr Abu Zuhri. He said Mr Abbas's call comes at the same time that the president is engaged in security cooperation with Israel and is rushing towards a political agreement with it that will undermine basic Palestinian rights.
