Black Finance Unites

M&F Bancorp Inc. said yesterday that it has agreed to buy Mutual Community Savings Bank Inc. and merge it with Mechanics and Farmers Bank, it’s subsidiary. The banks, both based in Durham, are two of the nations’ oldest black-owned financial institutions. The combined bank would have assets of $355 million and 10 branches in Charlotte, Durhan, Greensboror, Raleigh and Winston-Salem.

That’s cool. Last Black-owned bank I dealt with was Carver Savings Bank but I had to pull my money when I found out that they were a subsidiary of Chase. Furthermore, I couldn't get anyone to return my calls when I was looking for a mortgage.
